October 18: For this American citizen of Indian origin, the pandemic was a blessing in disguise. IT helped him realize his ultimate travel dream. It was even before the pandemic hit he began planning for a lifetime of adventure and exploration. Meet Wandering Naren, a solo traveller who has converted his who converted his KIA Sonet into a mini-camper to explore the nook and corners of India.
“I am a solo traveller, and I love to wander and experience world cultures and historical monuments,” said Wandering Naren, a software programmer by profession. “I am an American citizen of Indian origin, and I am very proud to have been raised in Indian heritage and culture. I am following my roots as I accept and experience world cultures and hope to share my YouTube videos and Google maps photos and videos with the world.”
Wandering Naren has converted his KIA Sonet into a mini-camper to explore the nook and corners of India. The converted camper car has the provision for cooking meals and a comfortable sleeping arrangement.
“My car is my sweet little home,” said Wandering Naren. “The car has all the facilities except for a bathroom. For bathing, I visit the petrol pumps to take showers on my way to explore destinations. I am keener on exploring historic and ancient monuments and destinations. I take random routes to travel my way, be it day or night.”
Before he set out, Wandering Naren packed 10 pairs of clothes each, minimum cooking essentials, a bucket and a mug and course, a laptop to edit videos for the journey.
For the nights and nap breaks, he decided to add additional headrests for the backseats, fold the seats and spread a mattress to convert the backseats into a bed. “I don’t care about the budget for my trip. But so far, our real expenses have been far lower,” says Wandering Naren. “I am travelling across India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and have a great desire to travel around the world by road.”
