November 9: The story of the Aradhana’s founder, Chintan Bhikhubhai Kankad, endearingly known as Prem Kumar, is nothing short of the typical Bollywood movie: the underdog dreams; the dreams come true. In fact, one of his many achievements is to have produced a Gujrati film.
Despite coming from a humble background, Prem dreamt of making movies since as early as time, he was in the 8th Standard. As a young cinemagoer, he was fascinated by the art of filmmaking: how the camera pans, the way scenes change, the thrilling jumpcuts, and the breathtaking long shots. Finally, at age 18, in 2016, Prem produced the Gujrati movie “Koi Aane Parnavo” under the banner Prem Kumar Productions. Befitting the dramatic note of his endeavor, his debut as a producer came after a long period of struggle to finance the movie and fill in the gap in knowledge of the film industry.
Before Prem Kumar could embark upon his filmmaking journey, his humble background which compelled him to juggle studies and work since the age of 12, also forced him to pursue the great Indian qualification- an engineering degree. After completing his Civil Engineering degree, Prem followed the entrepreneurial zeal that he harboured since childhood, inspired by the diamond merchants of Surat, He currently runs four businesses: Aradhana Fashion, Aradhana Glow Sign, Aradhana Physiotherapist, and Aradhana Jari.
Launching Aradhana Fashion, Prem’s successful textile company was the turning point of his entrepreneurial journey. The company that began with Prem alone, without any financial help from his friends and family, today employs a workforce of above 450. After its fair share of tribulations, Aradhana Fashion has a factory worth 10 crores, churning out a 50 crore-worth turnover.
On being asked about his journey, Prem said, “I had started my textile business, where I was all-in-all: the owner and the employee. Little did I know at the time, that I would come so far. I think what carried me through is the love for my family and my dedication to seeing them out of financial struggles. My family’s support has been instrumental in motivating me through the tough days and that is what keeps me going. I strongly believe that the success so far is just the beginning, miles to walk ahead, and many more industries to explore.”
In addition to entrepreneurial and filmmaking interests, there is more to Prem. An avid traveler, he is about to embark on his world tour. Further, his love for playing cricket and his expertise in the field has earned him the name “Jhony”. Further, to push the limits of his capabilities, Prem has plans to explore several more vistas in the business world.
